Good news, Malaysians! You can now travel to Japan from Malaysia just like before the COVID-19 pandemic!

The news was published by Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare to create awareness that they have lifted all remaining COVID-19 travel restrictions, including the requirement to submit a vaccination certificate or negative COVID test prior to departure.

This is a massive change from the previous requirements, which made it time-consuming and financially challenging for Malaysians to travel to Japan. The lifting of travel restrictions is a welcome sign for the Japanese tourism industry and for Malaysians who have been eager to visit the country.

So, can I pack my bags and travel to Japan now?

The registration process on Visit Japan Web is simple and straightforward but you are required beforehand your flight ticket, a valid passport, and mailing address. Yes, Malaysians do not need a visa to enter Japan for a short-term stay of fewer than 90 days. No, you are not required to wear a mask whether you are indoors or outdoors or even in crowded places as Japan's health authority has reclassified COVID-19 as Class 5, the same level as influenza. .
